Tea-Vee Party
Get it? TEA-vee? Because they are all TV characters and they are drinking tea?

Anyway, my friend Vlad requested that I draw Rambo hosting a tea party with three of my favorite TV characters. GOB was a no-brainer. So was Sam Seaborn (who should be IMMEDIATELY identifiable to the true West Wing buffs out there). Gumby was a stretch. Honestly, I loved the show as a kid, I hadn’t thought of him in a while, and then I was like “hey…what if I drew Gumby?” Plus, he’s easily identifiable, much more so than Walter White from Breaking Bad (plus, I didn’t really want to draw all that meth).

Happy Birthday!

My friend Vanessa’s mom is celebrating her birthday today. As part of her gift, Vanessa wanted me to draw a picture of her mom making stained glass (her favorite hobby) with a chocolate lab curled up at her feet. So I did. And here it is.

Also, since I’m making pictures for people to give as gifts now, does that make me an actual artist? Discuss.

Meme Poker
My friend Lea Ann wanted a drawing of Charlie Sheen covering Rebecca Black’s hit Friday (please note: Lea Ann requested this over a month ago, when these two things were still relevant). That seemed pretty hard, and also everyone is done with these people, so I just decided to put them in a friendly game of poker with a bunch of other internet memes who probably don’t have much else to do these days. Anyone else I should have included for a potential rematch?

Long Time Comin’
Hi all. It’s been a while since I put one of these up, and I’ve got a few left to do, so I figured I’d at least get one up this week. Today’s entry is from my friend Yvonne, who wanted a drawn recreation of the time she was recently taught how to ride a bike on Navy Pier by our friends Nicole and Jillian. I wasn’t there, so this is the best I can do. Notice the scale of Navy Pier, which should prove that I am no artist (considering the Ferris wheel is only maybe three times the height of my friends…but maybe they are giants!). Also note that it’s been long enough that I don’t remember anything on Navy Pier EXCEPT the Ferris wheel and that big building in the background, so please don’t be upset that I have apparently populated the popular tourist destination with what looks to be two shacks used to torture people on 24 and some sort of blue perspective-defying cube.

Fwenaissance!
Okay, bear with me, because this is a bit tortured…
Caitie, my BFF from college, and I call each other “fwen” instead of, you know, friend. She wanted a picture of a “Fwenaissance faire” for her donation. I couldn’t think of a way to represent that fully, so instead, I went to the lizard, dorky part of my brain and pulled out this. Assume, for a moment, that there was an actual Fwenaissance Faire going on, and all of these different “F.W.E.N.”s came thinking it was held for them. See if you can figure out the dumb jokes for yourself. For starters, I’ll give you me, over in the right hand corner, face-slapping with every non-joke.

One City To Rule Them All
My friend (and marathoner from another mother) Judith wanted a drawing of an epic showdown between New York and Chicago, set at Helm’s Deep from the second Lord of the Rings book. This is my interpretation of that request. I think most of you will get most of the references here, but in case there are any questions, please feel free to leave a comment. Also, before you ask, yes, that is Blagojevich, and yes, I know he wouldn’t be leading the charge of the Chicago army anymore, but he’s kind of fun to draw, so there’s that.

Today She Is a Man
My friend Erin has a fascination with Judaism, particularly Jewish culture. She was, from what I can imagine, the only blonde in the class Jewish Law last spring. Anyway, she wanted a drawing of her conversion to Judaism. However, that was hard to figure out how to draw, so I just figured I’d draw her enjoying the best part of growing up Jewish: the Bat Mitzvah, complete with tacky DJ, thrown candy, and chair dancing. She also wanted to make sure I made reference to the fact that in Jewish law, you can kill any intruder who is not your dad. For the record, that Hamburglar look alike? Not Erin’s dad.

Dream Vacation!
My friends Dan and Nora are celebrating their fourth anniversary today. In honor of that, Nora asked for a picture of the two of them on vacation with their cat Meetza, since they’ve never been on a fun vacation together. Here’s what I imagine what this vacation would like. Happy anniversary, guys!

Cherished Moments
My grandmother (hi Mom Mom Ruth!) requested a drawing of a memory I have with her. Easy enough, there’s a lifetime to choose from, and I’m nothing if not willing to partake in a little adorable reminiscing. One of my favorite memories, even though it’s not very specific, is coming down to the kitchen on the mornings when she would visit and having a cup of coffee while we did one of the really hard Washington Post crossword puzzles together. They were impossible, but if we pooled our knowledge we could usually knock one out, and it was immensely satisfying. We still do that to this day whenever she visits, and I always love it.
